Matchng Colour & Tone in LR

I am working on a diptych and would like to ensure the two images match in colour and tone. I have used the reference window to have them side by side and I have tried to do it by sight, with not a great deal of success. Is there a way to do in LR , I also tried the synchronize button but nothing happened.
